Executive Vice-President Africa & Middle East -
Henry Nkondokaya |
I was elected as
Executive Vice-President for the Africa and Middle East
Region of IFATCA at the Annual Conference in Istanbul in
April 2007.
I
am responsible for liaison with the Member Associations
within this vast region with very diverse levels of
sophistication in their ATM systems, for fostering contacts
with non-member Associations and generally for overseeing
the Federation’s activities in the region.
I obtained my first Air Traffic Controller Rating
(Aerodrome Control) in 1978. Since then, I have worked as an
operational Approach Procedural, Area Procedural and
Approach Radar Controller, for most of the time at Julius
Nyerere International Airport (formerly Dar es Salaam
International Airport).
I have also been an ATC instructor at the Tanzanian Civil
Aviation Training Centre in Dar es Salaam and trained as a
Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator.
Between 1988 and 2000 I held leadership positions in the
Tanzania Air Traffic Controllers’ Association as Executive
Committee member, Secretary and finally President.
My first attendance at an IFATCA Conference was in
Nairobi in 1987. This was followed by 9 others, including
Istanbul. I also participated in 8 regional meetings, the
latest being the Johannesburg meeting in November 2006.
Before my election to this role, I served on the IFATCA
Africa and Middle East Regional Support Group under 3
different EVPs from 1991.
