October 20th marks the International Day of the Air Traffic Controller. The International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Associations (IFATCA), as the largest international professional body representing Air Traffic Controllers in over 130 countries worldwide, would like to extend its heartfelt appreciation to all Air Traffic Controllers for their exceptional service prioritising safety at all times, but often delivered under very challenging circumstances. They are the inspiration, the role models and the finest ambassadors of the profession. We salute them.
At the heart of aviation is the human. Controllers are the most crucial component of the ATM system and must be supported as its most valuable resource. “Recruitment and training: Our Flight plan for the Future” is not just our theme for 2025, it is the focal point for futureproofing the ATM sector. Now, more than ever, aviation decision-makers must commit resources to recruitment, training and retention of personnel, by ensuring the growth and wellbeing of the workforce that ensures safe skies and runways.
Our focus this year has been on raising the profile of our profession, to inspire the next generation of air traffic controllers to apply for a challenging and rewarding career.
